Lions Club of Bombay West Coast, District 323 A2 and VAMAS Fashion Private Limited work towards skill development for tribal women

The Lions Club of Bombay West Coast, driven by an enthusiastic group of individuals, partnered with Vamas Fashion Pvt. Ltd, one of the world’s leading manufacturers in ready-to- wear designer apparel, for a skill development initiative- ‘Har Ghar Rozgar’ in Nashik.

Vamas Fashion Pvt. Ltd. was founded by Mr. Jayesh Parekh in October, 2009, and has since established itself as a leading player in the apparel manufacturing segment, motivating and driving the employees to dedicatedly own up to every responsibility and work towards making Vamas a successful endeavor.

Mr. Parekh believes that vocational teaching can help families to make wiser decisions for the family and the future. Encouraged by his idea of delivering vocational education to villages, Vamas collaborated with the Lions Club of Bombay West Coast, with the support of Lioness Sudha Shah, under the ‘Har Ghar Rozgar’ initiative, where they conducted a woman and skill development program in a remote village of Hirve, near Nashik.

The ‘Har Ghar Rozgar’ initiative was first founded under the leadership of Past District Governor, Nitin Shetty and Lioness Sudha Shah in November, 2015.

Instituted with the support of Ms. Varsha Pursure, a social worker from the ‘Mahila Parivarthan Sanstha’, who has been previously associated with Adivasi lifestyle and upliftment for a long period of time, actuated the project in Nashik with special sewing classes for women to develop their skills. The participating women were also provided with sewing machines, which were donated by the Club.

ITC exams were organized for the ladies in 2 batches and special certificates were distributed for participation. A special training was provided over a period of 3 months, by Mukesh Makwana, from Vamas Fashion Private Ltd.

After a successful endeavor in Hirve; the Lions Clubs and Vamas Fashion Pvt. Ltd. have pledged to expand the activity to other underdeveloped areas of Maharashtra.

Extending their pledge, a MoU was signed between Mr. Jayesh Parekh, Director, Vamas Fashion Pvt. Ltd. and Nitin Shetty, Past District Governor on behalf of Lions Club of Bombay West Coast in the presence of Second International Vice President Lion Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir, Past International President Lion Ashok Mehta, Executive Administrator India, South Asia, Africa and Middle East (ISAAME) Dr. Neville Mehta and Lion Sudha Shetty were also in attendance.
