Major Catastrophe Grant of US$ 100,000 to MD 316 (316 A) in Hyderabad

Lions Clubs International Foundation sanctions Major Catastrophe Grant of US$ 100,000 for relief operations in the wake of cyclone Hudhud

The Lions Clubs Foundation (LCIF) has sanctioned a Major Catastrophe Grant of US$ 100,000 to MD 316 (316 A) in Hyderabad as aid, for relief operations and rehabilitation activity of the Lions Clubs in the district.

Severe cyclonic storm Hudhud hit the port city of Vishakapatnam on Sunday, 12th October 2014, bringing with it torrential rains in three coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh causing severe damage in the Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram areas, affecting more than 4,00,000 people. With 24 people confirmed dead, 6,500 homes destroyed, and 90,000 people relocated to temporary relief camps, Lions Clubs members of MD 316 (316 A) in Hyderabad are working tirelessly alongside the government and other relief agencies to provide immediate relief to the badly affected and displaced.

In response to this disaster, LCIF has awarded a US$1,00,000 Major Catastrophe Grant (MCAT) to District MD 316 A for cyclone relief efforts in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud.

Presently, 40 Lions Clubs are working with local relief agencies to manage the most urgent needs among those displaced.
