With the ever increasing numbers of sight related disease on the rise, the Lions Clubs of Byculla provide eye care for those suffering from eye related diseases. Working closely with Nair hospital for over three decades, the club has been supporting the hospital and has been actively involved with providing eye care for those in need, at the hospital.
What started with a small donation of Intra ocular lenses, to be used in cataract surgeries, has now resulted in a state of the art Ophthalmology department. The department is equipped with modern facilities that enable the hospital to undertake comprehensive eye care treatment, under one roof.
Funded through a generous grant of US$ 1, 76,597 from Lions Clubs International Foundation, the Ophthalmology Department is testimony to the dedication of Lions club members who not only provide funds, but also their time to the department . Today, this partnership has resulted in a humane approach for the underprivileged that are provided with advanced eye care treatment, that otherwise would be out of their reach.
While the objective of creating a dedicated Ophthalmology department is to offer high grade, quality treatment to the less fortunate, to alleviate their suffering and prevent blindness, the club also conducts camps that offer eyeglasses to those in need, through the Corporate Partnership Programme of LCIF and V S P Global Sterling.
Additionally, the club has provided a mobile Ophthalmic Van to conduct free eye camps for the underprivileged which has been instrumental in preventing reversible blindness due to lack of facilities, in the surrounding areas.
All this is made accessible through the single minded dedication of local Lion members, who make it possible to provide the best eye care for the less fortunate.
