Lions Club of Bangalore East launched the Mobile Speech and Hearing outreach bus - the first of its kind in India. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Lions Club of Bangalore East and Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing. The project is funded by Lions Clubs International Foundation who donated US$ 75,000 and the local lions clubs.
Over 1,200 children are born every year in the State of Karnataka with significant hearing impairment. If screened and identified before reaching 6 months and fitted with a hearing aid, these children can lead a normal life. If not, they will become permanently speech and hearing impaired. Out of the 1.2 million children born in Karnataka every year, less than 10% are born in Corporate Hospitals with facilities for hearing screening and intervention. Therefore, this project is launched with the objective of providing preventive healthcare through hearing screening and early intervention services to needy news born, children and adults.
The mobile outreach bus is equipped with advanced testing equipment and modern technology, as per international standards. It offers comprehensive Audiological evaluation, treatment and consultation services for people with hearing and speech impairment, in rural and urban areas in and around Bengaluru where facilities are not available. The mobile outreach bus will enable people to access the services at their doorstep and in a timely manner, and offer life changing experiences.
Great work, by Lions Clubs of Bangalore East…
