Emily Burnett celebrates Christmas with Underprivileged Children

Childhood is the most beautiful of all life’s season. But for many children the reality of childhood is altogether different. All children are entitled to a happy and joyous childhood, however, a greater section of children in our society do not receive the childhood they deserve. As adult individuals of this society it is truly elating to spend and share time with such less fortunate children. In doing so we realize the small factors that we have taken for granted during our growing up years.

On the occasion of Christmas, Leo Clubs under Lions Club of Mumbai Dream City, 323 A1, R.C Stars, Govt. Law College and K.C Law college came together to organize a Christmas Party with the aim to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged kids.

The party was hosted on the 20th of December, 2015 at Amy Rustomjee, Hall, WGU, Colaba with 150 underprivileged children from Kawaslalkaka Balwadi and WGU Study Center. These children were joined by a large contingent of Leos who successfully organized a fun-filled event.

Emily Burnett, Leo Clubs Program Manager was the Chief Guest at the party. She inaugurated the Christmas Party by bursting a balloon. President of Lions Club of Mumbai Dreamcity, Lion Ashish Singh presented her with a small token of appreciation. Multiple Council President Leo Ojas Rawal was the Guest of Honor for the party. Special invitees were Mr. Salim Khan, Lion Kishore Mehta, Lion Prakash Chand Jain, and Lion Gauri Chhabria, graced the event by their presence with other members.

All children wore red santa caps while Emily Burnett distributed gifts, chocolates and candies to them. It was a fun – filled event and the Christmas spirit could easily be witnessed in the games played and Christmas carols sung by children along with the adults.

On this occasion of celebrations, Leos launched their newsletter - ‘Leos to Meet the Voice’ and presented Christmas greeting cards. Leos also created awareness about organ donation with the help of handmade charts which highlighted the importance of organ donation and donor cards were also made available.

The celebration proved to be a great success. It was a time where children enjoyed small things that most of us take for granted. The smile and happiness on these children’s face was a great sight to see. Each and every child had a great story to tell about their experience at the party and as it’s said by Peg Bracken - “Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly Merry Christmas.”
