Zavda, Vaghai and Sadad are 3 impoverished villages in Navsari, Gujarat, where mal nourishment among children, unemployment and poverty are a way of life. Here, homes have no electricity or drinking water, and children have no schools to go to. Living conditions are appalling as people mostly live in mud huts. Sensing the plight of the villagers, Lions Clubs of Byculla have decided to help with development of these villages and adopt them as a permanent project of the club, in this way the Lions will be able to monitor the development progress every step of the way.
On their visit to the villages, Lions club members met with the local Talati and Sarpanch, in order to understand the requirements for each village. While government aid does reach some places, most of it is fragmented and unplanned, making it difficult for results to be seen or any sustainable effort.
Moved by the plight of the villagers, especially the children, Lions Clubs of Byculla have adopted the three villages and are working towards their betterment. Dance of Humanity – a fund raiser to create awareness and collect funds was organized and Lions were able to collect INR 17,00,000. Organized by Lion Percy Master, Fund Raising Chairman & First Vice President, Lions Club of Byculla, the event was entertaining while being informative.
Known for their transparency and integrity in community service, the Lions club has appointed an independent Chartered Accountant firm to audit the accounts, and help plan disbursement of monies collected, towards the development of the villages.
The club has targeted to complete the development project over a period of five years, and is looking for assistance towards this. If you wish to know more about the project and partner with Lions Clubs, in order to help with the development then, click here, and a Lions clubs member will get in touch with you.
