EVERYDAY HEROES

Our Everyday Hero- Hasmukh Mehta

A humble individual, an initiator and a dedicated Lion, Hasmukh Mehta has rendered services to hundreds of people through his vision. His selfless commitment for the betterment of the society found him a perfect platform in form of Lions Clubs International. He became a Lion member in 1988 and become the District Governor of District 323 D2 during the year 2006-07 with the slogan “MISSION EQUALITY”. He formed the Lions Clubs of Pune Supreme in 1995 and served as its Charter President in 1995-96.

He was elected as Multiple Council Secretary for the year 2007-2008 for Multiple District 323. During his tenure as District Governorship, he achieved several accomplishments, namely - extension of 12 New Lions Clubs, 71 MJF fellow registrations and received four LCIF grants during that year.

In a country like India, where a large section of the society is physically handicapped; providing artificial limbs to this section is a very difficult task. Hasmukh Mehta has been helpful in launching and conducting the ‘Jaipur Foot Camp’- a program which provides artificial limbs, calipers and other physical aid to the handicapped individuals. He has conducted over 33 artificial limb camps since 1995 at various locations in India. The main objective is to enable the physically handicapped to regain their self-confidence and function independently. While they kept the camps open for all, the main aim was to reach out to the underprivileged sections of the society, who could begin their livelihood and to lead a normal life.

During his tenure as District Governor, he also spread a social awareness message on Traffic Awareness with the help Pune’s leading local newspaper- Sakal. A color panel on burning issues like traffic awareness and other social issue appeals were regularly published in ‘Sakal’ on the last page for more than two years. This public awareness campaign was awarded the ‘Best PR Idea Campaign Award’ for the year 2006-07 by Lions Clubs International, USA; recognition received for the first time by the District.

In 2014, he had organized ‘Lions Environment Expo’ in Pune, which received overwhelming support from Government departments, Industries and Social activists. It was the biggest awareness building activity, organized by Lions Clubs in India.

Lion Hasmukh Mehta lives on the same principles in life that he follows as a Lion. Other Lion members in the district know him as a grass root level worker, a friend whom they can approach with any problem and expect a quick helping hand. He is happily married to Lion Chandrika who is also active in Lionism.

Some of the awards and accomplishments of Lion Hasmukh Mehta are:
