Our Everyday Hero- Dr. Mudunuri Venkata Suryanarayana Raju

Every successful person has two beliefs, ‘The future can be better than the present’ and ‘I have the power to make it so’. Standing firm on his beliefs, Dr. Mudunuri Venkata Suryanarayana Raju has worked towards building a strong community through his efforts as a Lion.

Dr. Mudunuri Venkata Suryanarayana Raju popularly known as MVS amongst the Lions and Kuwaiti Doctor to his patients started his journey of Lionism in the year 1977 by joining Akividu Club. Dr. M.V.S Raju as extended his medical services to various Lions service activities. In 1989, Dr. M.V.S Raju was elected as the President of Akividu Club and was also elected as the District Governor for District 316 G in the year 2010.

Dr. M.V.S Raju with his passion to help those in need and his dedication towards Lions Clubs helped him bring a positive change in his community through Akividu Lions Club. Through his strong leadership various Lions Clubs were formed such as Akividu Adarsa, Akividu Abaya, China Kapavaram, and Bhimavaram Royal amongst others.

Dr. M.V.S Raju has encouraged many industrialist and philanthropists to donate towards the development of the community and to support those in need. Through his efforts, various projects initiated by Lions Clubs were financially supported through the donations received. The implementation and execution of these projects were independent as they were built through donations and not a single rupee was taken from the Lions District or Lions Clubs International Foundation. The following are a few contributions to the community:

  • First ever English Medium School with 400 Students was inaugurated in 1993. A boon for many students and their families as most of them could not afford to send their children to private schools.
  • In 2000, a school in Alapadu, Krishna District was opened to cater the needs of students in Kolleru . Currently, the school has strength of 700 students and caters to those families who cannot afford the education of private schools.
  • Provided sites and buildings and erected Water Treatment Plants to supply clean drinking water to the people in need in the areas of Akividu, Rajula, Undi Road and Pallevada.
  • To encourage and endorse our tradition and culture, Dr. M.V.S Raju has opened cultural wings, aptly named as ‘Saradha Kala Samithi’, ‘ Patanjali Yoga’ and ‘Meditation Centre’ in Akividu to support small artisitians and artists.
  • In 2001, Dr. M.V.S Raju helped in construction of a hospital for the poor and downtrodden. He regularly also conducts medical camps and distribute medicines in association with the hospital. In recognition of its services, Ashram Medical College, Eluru recognized it as their Rural Medical Centre.

He is happily married to Ms. Sundari, and has two children, a son and daughter. Dr. M.V.S. Raju and his wife are blessed with four grand Children. He has travelled extensively and is fluent in French and Arabic.

Dr. M.V.S. Raju has been zealous not only about rendering his services to those in need but also about Lions Clubs International.We salute you Dr. M.V.S. Raju, for being a heroic Lion and a true inspiration to all of us.
