Lions Clubs International will celebrate 100 years of service in 2017. To commemorate this achievement, a Lions Centenary Mobile Vehicle carrying the centenary peace torch will travel across the length and breadth of India. The objective behind the peace torch tour is to promote 'National Integration through diversity of culture’.
Lions Clubs started its journey in India from Mumbai, thus the centennial rally starting from Mumbai has a symbolic ring to it. The Centenary torch tour vehicle was flagged off by His Excellency, The Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao from Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on the 7th of December, 2015. This auspicious journey started on 7th of December will conclude in Kolkata at the 2017 ISAAME Forum.
The event was commenced by Dr. Neville Mehta, Executive Administrator, Lions Clubs International (ISAAME) addressing all the dignitaries present at the lighting of the Lion Centenary Peace Torch. Second International Vice President, Lion Naresh Agarwal quoted “The torch aims to create awareness of the importance of serving mankind, promote peace and harmony, and requested the community to come and join Lions for serving people effectively.
The event was graced by Past International President Ashok Mehta, and Past International Directors Raju Manwani and Narendra Bandhari who is the chairman for Centennial Celebration.
District Governors Lion Ravindra Kadel of District 323 A1, Lion Nitin Shetty of District 323 A2 and Lion K.L. Parmar of District 323 A3 were joined by Lions of all three districts and other eminent dignitaries during this memorable event. Lions of India took a pledge to spread the message of peace and service across India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The centennial torch was handed to District Governor Ravindra Kadel of District 323 A1.
The Governor was also presented with a Peace Poster Plaque. His Excellency, the Governor of Maharashtra quoted- “I am glad that the Centennial Peace Tour of Lions will be going all over the country. Due to the increased global warming and changes, calamities strike unexpectedly. People are expecting Lions service not only in India but throughout the world.
As quoted by Buddha - Set your heart on doing good. Do it over and over again, and you will be filled with joy. The torch is a promise to the community that Lions are for World Peace and service. The Centennial Torch aims to join more hands for humanitarian work with a goal of having one global community. We request all Lions to come forward and strive towards making the Centennial Service Challenge successful.
