Chartered in May 2014 under the dynamic leadership of its Chartered President MJF Lion Pratap Mudaliar with a membership of 51 Lions, the Lions Club of Navi Mumbai Champions have grown to 76 members to date.
This one year old club has set the record in by their enthusiasm and dedication to serve the community. The club stated with a bang by creating a book bank for underprivileged children studying in schools in Mumbai.
The club has also been instrumental in recycling old chairs installed at the Central Hospital, in Ulhasnagar and has provided an ambulance to cater to the needs of the poor at reasonable costs.
In just over a year the Lions have organised 150 medical health check-up camps across the district:
Navi Mumbai : Airoli, Vitava, Divagaon, Rabale,Ghansoli, Koperkhairne, Vashi, Nerul, Seawoods and Belapur.
Raigad : Kharghar, Kamothe, Panvel
Thane: Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar
Mumbai : CST , Prabhadevi, Bandra, Bhandup, Kurla, Sion
Rest of Maharashtra : Ratnagiri, Chiplun
Additionally, the Lions of Navi Mumbai Champions have also conducted 125 free Cataract Operations and 75 Diabetes awareness camps and donated 200 lenses for Cataract Operation for the poor in Panvel.
As part of a special initiative the Lions have conducted several medical camps like blood group detection, Thalassemia awareness, Haemoglobin check-up and Eye check-up camps. Additionally, they have also distributed vitamin, medication and tonic to combat health issue. And have had seminars on women rights, health and social issues for girls, career guidance for students of X and much more at the local the local municipal school.
