Lions Club of Ghatkopar a premier club of Lions Clubs International District 323A2 serving for the community betterment since 1958. Over the last six decade the club has grown to strength of 107 members who have carried out more than 100 monumental and permanent projects.
Happily busy over the years distributing Mid-Day Meals at Bhandup Rajadhiraj School, conducting intraocular lenses operations for about 90 patients at Somaiya Medical Center, conducting medical checkup camps, blood donation drives, maintaining Lions gardens, jogging park and childrens park at Garodia Nagar, the club has served the community for close to 60 years.
The dream project of cleaning Ghatkopar railway station, modeled after the Prime Ministers, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, saw the participation of close to 50 Lion and Leos volunteered who cleaned and scrubbed the railway station and its periphery during late nights from 29th September to 2nd October. With the help of 25 volunteers each night the club undertook the decluttering, scrubbing stickers mark and paan stains from the walls, removing cobwebs and cleaning toilet blocks, fans, windows etc. About three to four dumpers of garbage were disposed from Ghatkopar railway station. Lions kept up the momentum by displaying cleanliness messages through banners, placards, ticket windows and surroundings with the help of school children. The Lions work was appreciated by many dignitaries, railway authorities and local MP Kirit Somaiya.
Additionally, the club has also been working towards relieving hunger, through its project EK MUTTHI ANAJ, where wheat, tur dal, moong, rice, sugar, jaggery and salt were distributed to 50 underprivileged students of Ramji Ashar Vidhyalay, Ghatkopar.
