Lions Club of Alibaug Poynad started in 2012, the young club of 3 year has become popular in the area through its community service activities.
Launched on the platform of SightFirst, the club organised five eye check-up and cataract camps at Adivasi Villages of Tadwagale, Shreegaon, Whagoda etc., where a total of 800 people were checked, and 104 cataract operation were completed successfully; making the club and instant hit with the locals. This gave the Lions the impetus to carry on and Lions went on to organize lectures on the social evils of sexual harassment, chewing of gutka and tobacco, bring about awareness and providing a platform for healthy discussion.
Encouraged by the locals, Lions organized a road traffic and rules awareness program with the support of the Poynad Police Station that was appreciated by both, the authorities and the local residents.
In addition the club has undertaken the responsibility of providing groceries, medical aid, clothes, etc. to the local old age home. Instrumental in spreading the message of Clean India Campaign, the club is spearheading cleanliness programs in the area. The young club has not only managed to receive the support of the locals, they have also been awarded the Shivjayant Utsav Samiti Poynad for social activity.
